TVHC’s Dental and Youth Health Services (YHS) teams recently came together to support the Hayward Unified School District Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway and Vaccine Clinic, helping connect students and families with important health resources as they prepare for the new school year.

Throughout the morning, our team engaged with more than 400 families, sharing information about TVHC services and promoting the upcoming Family Health Fiesta. The event also provided an opportunity to offer free dental screenings for children, helping families access preventive care before the start of the school year.

As part of the event, TVHC’s Dental team conducted 35 free dental screenings on a first-come, first-served basis. TVHC was the only health center at the event providing onsite dental screenings, helping fill an important need for students and families in attendance. A special thank you to TVHC Dentist Dr. Garrett Tien for making these screenings possible.

School-entry vaccinations were also available through the Alameda County Public Health Department, which hosted the event in partnership with Hayward Unified School District. During the event, TVHC staff also had the opportunity to connect with Assemblymember Liz Ortega, who attended to support the community gathering.
