The Promotores Program is a volunteer, community-based health education program. Based on Paulo Freire’s popular education model, our training curriculum uses proven methods for teaching volunteers how to become leaders in the community, communicate health information, and be advocates for the rights of their family and neighbors. In order to become a Promotora, participants must be 18 or older, complete at least 13 of the 16 basic training sessions, and commit to at least 5 hours of volunteer service per month.
In return, Promotoras obtain valuable skills and knowledge through comprehensive training and volunteer experience.
If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Promotora, contact Sandra Rodriguez at (510) 471-5907 ext 3121 or sandrarodriguez@tvhc.org.
There is also an ongoing need for volunteers to help with administrative tasks and special events. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community, to learn about community health care, and to gain valuable work experience. Volunteers may commit 4 hours or more per week on the days they are available. TVHC may be able to offer academic credit for volunteer hours completed.
To find out about other volunteer opportunities in the organization, please contact us at volunteers@tvhc.org. If you are a student seeking academic credit, please include your school information in your message.
