September 2026 CEO Community Update

As we move into the fall season, I want to take a moment to reflect on several initiatives that demonstrate the importance of community advocacy, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to improving health outcomes for the people we serve.

This month provided an opportunity to help address questions and concerns many community members have about accessing services. I recently joined Telemundo Área de la Bahía for an interview discussing public benefits, healthcare access, and common misconceptions that may cause individuals and families to withdraw from services they are eligible to receive.

Ensuring that community members have accurate information and feel confident accessing healthcare and support services remains a critical part of our mission.

Civic engagement is another important part of building healthy communities. This month, I had the opportunity to participate in the District 10 Candidate Forum, bringing together community members and local leaders to discuss issues affecting our region. Whether this newsletter reaches you before or after the event, I am grateful for opportunities like these that encourage dialogue, civic participation, and conversations about the future of our communities.

Looking ahead, I encourage our community to learn more about Proposition 44 before voting this fall. The measure would require nonprofit community health centers to spend at least 90% of their revenue on healthcare services.

At TVHC, we are concerned that this requirement could limit the resources clinics need for staffing, technology, facilities, and other work that supports patient care. For clinics like ours, those investments help us keep our doors open and respond to the needs of our communities. To learn more about the concerns surrounding the measure and the case for voting no, visit the No on Proposition 44 campaign.

Finally, as flu season approaches, I encourage everyone to make plans to receive their annual flu vaccine. Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect yourself, your family, and those most vulnerable to serious illness. Please talk with your healthcare provider and watch for information about flu vaccination opportunities available through TVHC in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued partnership, advocacy, and commitment to healthier communities. Together, we are helping ensure that healthcare remains accessible, equitable, and responsive to the needs of the individuals and families we serve.

If you’re interested in connecting, I’d love to hear from you — email me or find us on LinkedIn. You can also check out our past Community Newsletters.

Warm regards,

Andrea Schwab-Galindo
TVHC Chief Executive Officer
