TVHC’s Community Outreach & Advocacy Department Hosts Mommy & Me Nutritional Cooking Classes
This summer, TVHC’s Community Outreach and Advocacy (COA) department has been holding Mommy and Me Nutritional Cooking classes for families in the community!
Each class begins with a presentation on certain nutritional concepts, such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and how to incorporate these components into a healthy diet.
After the presentation, families get to participate in a cooking demonstration to learn healthy recipes that use ingredients related to that day’s topic. For the presentation on fats, COA staff and TVHC’s Promotoras made avocado toast with fresh pico de gallo, mozzarella slices, and hard-boiled eggs to give examples of healthy fats that provide important nutrients.
“We are thrilled to see the positive impact our Mommy and Me Nutritional Cooking classes have had on the community,” says Sandra Rodriguez, Senior Manager of the COA department. “As we enter our third class, it’s heartwarming to hear from parents who not only appreciate the valuable knowledge gained but also cherish the quality bonding time with their children.”
Through these beginner-level classes, community members can foster both healthier lifestyles and stronger family connections in a supportive, educational environment.
Thank you to all our participants and we can’t wait to continue these classes throughout the summer and beyond!
