Promotoras Begin Six Week “Cooking Matters” Course, Learning New Recipes Incorporating Healthy Foods
Beginning on January 12th, the Community Outreach and Advocacy (COA) Department is now hosting Cooking Matters classes for the Promotoras.
With these classes, “the community is learning how to cook and eat healthy with the resources they receive each week. This includes cooking demonstrations, healthy eating tips, and recipes that are healthy alternatives to traditional high-calorie dense foods.” says Sandra Rodriguez, Sr. Manager of Community Outreach and Advocacy.
The goal of the cooking classes is to support the community with nutritious food while teaching new healthy recipes to share.
Access to healthy foods and learning how to integrate them into meals is crucial in preventing diabetes and hypertension, and increasing health equity in our communities.
Each series of classes will last for six weeks, with the first session teaching a recipe for vegetarian quesadillas and fruit salad. An additional series of six cooking classes will begin in late February.
