May 2024 CEO Update
As we close out the month of May, I am excited to share some significant advocacy updates and reflect on our ongoing efforts and accomplishments.
Firstly, I am proud to announce the launch of our new Connect a Candidate Referral Program, an exciting initiative aimed at enhancing our efforts to recruit top-tier, values-driven healthcare providers.
Over the next year, the primary focus of the program will be on recruiting physicians so that we can meet our organizational goal of enhancing our communities’ access to care!
The program offers a $5,000 reward for each physician successfully referred and hired. This allows for anyone in our community to play a role in helping us bring in talented professionals who are passionate about advancing health equity while receiving a financial incentive from TVHC to express our gratitude.
Please refer to the Connect a Candidate Referral Program page for more information.
In other news, we are facing some challenges due to recent budget proposals. A couple of weeks ago, Governor Newsom’s office proposed significant budget cuts to ongoing programs to address a $44.86 billion fiscal shortfall. Â
This proposal includes the clawback of the Managed Care Organization (MCO) Tax revenue, resulting in the elimination of targeted rate increases planned for 2025 and beyond. The cuts also impact several key investments proposed in the Governor’s January budget, including funding for primary and specialty care Medi-Cal, graduate medical education, community and outpatient procedures and services, the Medi-Cal workforce pool, and more.
Additionally, it proposes the elimination of the Health Enrollment Navigators Program, which has been instrumental in helping us outreach and enroll many of our patients into Medi-Cal.
For those interested in more details, you can read the full budget revision summary here drafted by CPCA Advocates.Â
It’s important to note that this budget revision is still a proposal. The Governor and both houses of the Legislature must negotiate and agree on a final budget by June 15. The coming weeks will be critical as we engage in advocacy to mitigate the most impactful budget cuts. Â
We need your support in advocating for community health center priorities that affect our communities and patients. If you are interested in becoming a Health Center Advocate, please click and share this link with friends, family, board members, patients, and community partners.Â
Thank you for your continued dedication and support. Together, we can navigate these challenges and continue to make a positive impact.Â
Warmly,
Andrea
