March 2024 CEO Update
As Spring has sprung, so have our new advocacy visits. This month we met with Alameda County’s Supervisors and advocated on the importance of our continued service to the community and the critical role FQHCs play at the County level in ensuring health equity.
I had the pleasure of welcoming Supervisor Elisa Márquez to our Mission Health Center in Hayward, where we discussed our mutual investments in the Hayward community and ways to collaborate in serving our most vulnerable populations, including the unhoused and the uninsured.
I also joined CEO of Asian Health Services Julia Liou, CEO of Alameda Health Consortium Andie Martinez-Patterson, and Chief Impact Officer at Alameda Health Consortium Toni Panetta in visiting Supervisor Keith Carson to thank him for his ongoing support of community health centers like TVHC. We had the opportunity to talk in-depth about the challenges we are currently facing, in addition to how we’re responding to community needs and advocating for support to ensure that our health centers can continue adequately addressing health inequities.
Sustained investments in Alameda County’s FQHCs are crucial to our ability to provide culturally & linguistically concordant high-quality care. In my recent meeting with Supervisor Nate Miley of District 4, we discussed the importance of this care that FQHCs provide as the primary preventive care delivery system for the County’s underserved populations. One of our behavioral health staff, Monica Zuniga, also presented on the importance of our preventative behavioral health programs and the need for continued funding.
As we move through 2024, it is our goal to continue collaborating with our County leaders and partners to ensure that programs have the necessary support and funding to meet the needs of our communities. A big thank you to Supervisor Márquez, Supervisor Carson, and Supervisor Miley for taking the time to learn about TVHC, our partner health centers and our mission.
Of course, our work in the communities we serve would not be possible without the dedication of our incredible staff. Towards the end of March, we held a Staff Appreciation lunch event at our Mission Health Center to recognize all the hard work and resiliency our team members demonstrate daily to guarantee high-quality care standards and patient satisfaction.
Our staff consistently exemplifies TVHC’s mission to increase our communities’ access to culturally competent, high-quality care, and I greatly enjoy these opportunities to show our appreciation for our TVHC family. Please take a minute to read one of my favorite patient stories about the gesture some of our wonderful team members made when they learned about one of our pediatric patients’ birthday. It is acts of kindness, like the one below, that demonstrate the hearts of our wonderful mission-driven team members.
I hope you enjoy this month’s community newsletter. As always, thank you for your support and partnership as we work together to increase access to care.
Warmly,
Andrea
