February 2024 CEO Update
I am happy to report that this week we successfully completed our on-site visit from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). This is a triennial audit required by HRSA which assesses compliance in various program areas, including quality improvement and assurance, financial management and accounting systems, and board and administrative oversight.
A big shout-out to the many team members involved, who have worked diligently over the past few years and compiled the documents needed to demonstrate the high-quality care that we provide and our high-performing teams and systems. We received the equivalent of a 96% compliance rate. Way to go, TVHC!
This audit came on the heels of submitting our 2023 UDS report, which we are proud to share that it showed improvements in several of our key quality metrics, including a 17% improvement in our monitoring and screening for diabetes – putting us 3 points ahead of the California state average.
Our Dental sealant numbers also had a significant improvement, up 16% from last year, bringing us to 82% – this is 38% higher than the state average!
In addition to our progress in healthcare quality metrics, I have also been engaging with the future healthcare workforce to better understand the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
I recently was invited to visit my alma mater, UC Berkeley, to speak to a class of Health Care and Public Health Management students on healthcare leadership, change management, and leading during times of uncertainty.
Just as these bright young minds were learning from my experience, I learned from them about the healthcare workforce of the future, and was inspired by their commitment to learning and inquisitiveness about healthcare leadership.
I encouraged them to join an FQHC when they graduate or to pursue careers that address health equity. Go Bears!
Healthcare workforce is one of the top three issues brought up in every board meeting I attend, along with funding, modernizing the PPS system and transitioning to a value-based care model.
These were also a main topic for many of the strategic sessions I have attended this year, including the 2023 National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) Policy and Issues Forum in D.C.
I invite you to read more about our trip to NACHC P&I.
As we continue into this year, one of our areas of focus will be investing in career pathways for our clinical support staff to become the providers of tomorrow and show the value in building a long-term career in primary care and community health.
Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you enjoy this month’s community newsletter.
Warmly,
Andrea
