Cooking Up Healthy Habits: COA’s Cooking Classes at Brenkwitz High School

When healthy eating habits start early, they can have a lasting impact on overall well-being. That’s why our Community Outreach & Advocacy (COA) department has begun hosting Healthy Cooking Club classes to empower youth with the knowledge and skills to make nutritious choices.

This month, the COA department kicked off their Healthy Cooking Club at Brenkwitz High School, where students joined for a hands-on lesson about healthy carbohydrates and balanced meals. Together, they cooked, learned, and shared tips on incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables into daily meals. The goal is to help students reach the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables each day while making nutritious eating both fun and accessible.

Programs like these play a crucial role in improving long-term health outcomes by reducing the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease. By teaching practical cooking skills and the importance of whole foods, the COA team hopes to inspire lifelong habits that support healthier communities.

A big thank you to the COA team for leading these efforts and to the students who participated with enthusiasm! We look forward to more sessions and more delicious, healthy meals ahead. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to bring nutrition education to our community!
