COA’s Promotoras Adopt-A-Block Near TVHC’s Mission Clinic in Hayward

On Saturday, January 27th, the Community Outreach and Advocacy (COA) Department’s graduating Promotoras completed their final project by adopting a block near the TVHC Hayward clinic.

The Promotoras’ graduation project requires the class to select an assignment within the community or within the Hayward Promise Neighborhoods’ (HPN) schools as a way to practice advocacy and activity planning.

With this in mind, the Promotoras chose to join the City of Hayward’s Adopt-A-Block program by adopting the block near the clinic for the next two years. Their first clean-up day was at the end of January, and they will continue to conduct clean-up days three times a year.

Some of the Promotoras invited their husbands and children to the clean-up day, sharing the importance of keeping the community free of litter and trash.

Reflecting on the Promotoras’ participation in this project, Community Impact Coordinator Sandra Espinoza said, “It was a great experience seeing them come together with so much enthusiasm. They reflected on how much garbage is out there and how much the community can do to keep our streets clean.”
