Building Literacy in Pediatrics with the Children’s Book Project

TVHC is excited to announce our new partnership with the Children’s Book Project, a Bay Area non-profit dedicated to giving free books to children to support their growth in literacy, learning, and life.

Over the past few months, TVHC has received more than 300 books from the Children’s Book Project to distribute to kids in our Family Support Services program and stock our waiting room bookshelves. The wide selection of Spanish-languageearly reader, and board books allows our pediatric patients and families to build literacy skills together while waiting for their appointments.

These mini libraries have become a quick hit in TVHC waiting rooms, especially for families with young children who can take a moment to slow down and embrace the opportunity for early learning. In our school-based health centers, students are encouraged to take longer books with them and begin building home libraries to continue their reading journeys.

“The books have made a meaningful impact in our clinics for children of all ages,” shared one TVHC Site Operations Manager. “The bookshelf area has created an inviting space that keeps kids engaged and excited about choosing a book.”

We look forward to our ongoing partnership with the Children’s Book Project and bringing fun and educational books to our patients throughout the year!
