August 2024 CEO Update
As we wrap up the month of August, I want to take a moment to reflect on the recent happenings at TVHC and share some exciting updates.
First and foremost, we had the pleasure of hosting our annual Summer Fiesta, a cherished event where our entire staff comes together to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company. Our staff chose “Heroes Among Us” as this year’s theme. It was inspired by our everyday superheroes—the incredible individuals who make up the TVHC family.
The event was a wonderful opportunity to honor our team, celebrate their dedication, and recognize the recipients of our Employee Scholarship Program and those marking milestone anniversaries of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service.
We awarded our first “Impact Award” to Dr. Parveen Kaur, one of our longtime providers. Dr. Kaur’s dedication to her patients and her ability to inspire those around her make her not only an excellent healthcare clinician, but also an inspiring role model. She embodies TVHC’s values of resiliency, people centeredness, collaboration, and teamwork.
We also awarded Dr. Jessica Apfel, our Director of Integrated Behavioral Health with the “Mentorship Award.” Over the past 5 years, Dr. Apfel has invested in our team members and inspired them to pursue careers in behavioral health. Two members of her team, who started with TVHC in various roles, took advantage of our scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs, and are now behavioral health clinicians.
Congratulations to our award and scholarship recipients, our wonderful staff and leaders for making TVHC such a great place to work and to get care.
In August, I also had the privilege of attending the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) 2024 Community Health Institute (CHI) & EXPO conference.
This gathering reinforced the vital role Community Health Centers play in serving communities across the nation and the importance of adapting, innovating and staying competitive in today’s healthcare landscape.
From discussions on financial sustainability to new models of care addressing health equity, the insights gained will help us navigate challenges like workforce shortages, inconsistent funding and the growing demand for affordable and integrated primary care. I’m excited to bring these strategies back to TVHC as we continue our mission to provide top-quality care to our community.
Lastly, as we look ahead to the upcoming election, I want to express our strong support for California’s Prop 35. This proposition is crucial in ensuring that the needs of our patients and the broader community are met, without raising existing taxes. I encourage everyone to learn more about Prop 35 and consider its impact on our community’s health and well-being.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
Warm regards,
Andrea
